Pawnbroker

This reminded me of the old sign of the pawnbrokers; three golden balls.  In the autumn these ones will become golden.  They are galls on an oak tree, caused by the oak apple gall wasps laying their eggs in the leaf buds, or maybe the leaves themselves. Various different wasps worldwide seem to cause gall growth on the oak trees and one is the subject of an interesting Youtube video by David Attenborough for the BBC. (http://bit.ly/2spKIf9).
