After seeing the grandchildren for the first time in over a year last week (apart from three days before Christmas) we had a lovely surprise this afternoon.  Having had a very enjoyable holiday in the Highlands and Hebrides the family diverted on their way home to see us.  The beds were made up ready for them but, as one of the children said, they had a moral dilemma.  Should they risk staying the night with a possibility of infecting us despite being extremely careful on their travels and wearing masks as they entered our house. Sadly the decision was made to drive the 250 miles home even though they had already driven for four hours.  They will be tired when they arrive home after midnight but the diversion was well worth it to see each other and I hope we will be able to see them again before next year.  Apart from two paramedics and a man to service the alarm, they were the first to enter our house since before lockdown and we have tried to abide by the Covid recommendations but did not manage to maintain the social distancing but hopefully we will all be fine.
