Shimmering

A beautiful day for a change, spent enjoying the peace and quiet of the late summer garden and catching up with washing and replying to emails. Towards the end of the afternoon we had eight Common Darters in the garden. Most of them seemed to be feeling as lazy as me, spending most of their time perching on flowers and twigs, with occasional brief forays to hunt for prey. This one was perched above my head on one of the old vine stems. From the number of scratches on its wings, I'd say that it's getting on a bit - which may be why it was reluctant to move when I thrust a lens in its face!
