Freight station

The old freight station is protected building and it was located in the middle of the new road. Some people wanted to take it down, some wanted to save it. Debate took years. The final decision was to save and move it, although the whole process costs about 3 million euros.

On 25 July the freight station was moved, after 6 months preparations. The operation took 3 hours, and the building was moved 20 meters towards Tammela district and 9 meters towards Itsenäisyydenkatu street.

It most probably is the first brick building that has been moved in Finland.
