Blast Off

My change of scene today was to go to the vacuum cleaner store, buy new bags for the vacuum and receive a discourse from the lady behind the counter on why the cleaner should use our vacuum cleaner instead of hers. I told her I would speak to Anthony Fauci about it. Apparently the only people to enter his house other than himself and his wife is their cleaner who wears gloves and a mask the entire time she is there.

The bees on the sedum weren't exactly a change of scene but it was pleasant to get out of the house and wander in the garden a bit. The weather has cooled off, but the air quality still isn't great

The Tour de France started today in Nice, postponed from the beginning of July but still risking Covid in parts of France where cases are growing again. I love the Tour de France but don't know what to think about the wisdom of this move. Dozens of participants usually have to abandon the tour because of injury or illness but I don't think pandemic has ever been an issue before.

Both granddaughters are back in their respective schools, basically in lockdown. Julia is confined to her room until she has two negative Covid tests when she will be able to leave her room but not her campus. Claire isn't confined to quarters but can't leave campus. Twelve students there tested positive upon arrival and were sent home. Other larger universities in the country which have too many students to confine to campus or test as rigorously are not faring so well....

Peter's term doesn't start until the end of the month but he already knows that it will be taught remotely, as are all schools in the state. Dana is looking for a chair besides the dining room chair she has been using for two weeks. Even she has been finding sitting all day long to be difficult. It must be really difficult for her middle school special ed students.
