A watery expedition

Gartmorn dam is  eight miles from our home yet we had never been there until today.

So this afternoon  we had a walk around this oldest reservoir, built in 1713, in Scotland.

This is all part of our new strategy of discovering unknown bits of Scotland on our doorstep.

What’s more we found we were not the only people making our first ever visit to this secluded dam under the Ochil’s. Several people we stopped to chat to (as you do in this part of the world) surprised us by saying that it was their first visit too. I suspect this is all part of the “new normal” - people exploring their own locality since travel abroad is severely curtailed.

The distance around the dam is somewhere around 3 miles, depending on whose maps you trust, and for me it was the longest walk with my two new knees and hip. (See extra).

Photo: While we sat and had a soup and sandwich lunch at the nearby café, excellent and I fully recommend it, we saw this dog and its owner canoeing on the dam. The dog clearly did not think much of the experience. (see extra)
