Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
I always thought that the man being asked to do what millions of us thought would never happen in our lifetimes got a really rough deal out of history. Mikhail, here's to you.
So today's Blip was taken on Stresemann Strasse and you can see where the wall actually stood. It messes with my head to think it was actually there, right there where I was today.
Actually Berlin can and does mess with your head. It's an amazing city and so I took the chance to explore it the way I like best - on foot. I decided to walk to my course this morning, although I had no idea where I was going.
It was great. Much better than travelling on an underground. Having said that, some of the stations look pretty amazing. Bitter cold but lovely to be out and exploring. And after the course, I walked back to the hotel using a different route. Again amazing. The buildings and the ideas behind the buildings are just awesome.
I went out after I got back just to see a bit more around where I am. Big mistake. Tonight is the local derby between Hertha Berlin & Union. Down by the Bahnhof were thousands and thousands of fans and they were being watched by very unsympathetic policemen. The place was covered in beer bottles - i mean thousands and it was very loud. I skedaddled.
I also was at my course during all the good daylight. Interesting and I learned quite a bit. My German gets better as well. We're going out tomorrow night for a bier or two. Looking forward to it.
