Vervain

Today Pete and I went to Twyford Wood to record the south-eastern monad, which had very few records. Again some nice species including Lesser Centaury and Long-stalked Crane's-bill. Also rather surprising records for Water-bent and Narrow-leaved Ragwort which are usually urban species but have presumably been brought in on the feet or tyres of the many walkers and cyclists that visit the site..

Twyford Wood is certainly the place to go if you want to see Vervain with an enormous population growing in the cracks of the main runway. There was also a huge population of Autumn Gentian, with thousands of plants in the Butterfly Reserve. It certainly seems to be having a good year locally.
