Bringing Walt Disney's Vision To Life

My organization is holding a week long meeting at one the the Disney Hotels in Orlando. We had the opportunity today to meet with Dr. Scott Terrell, the Animal Health Director, for all Disney parks. He talked about Walt Disney's desire to use the parks to educate on the importance of animal life and the importance of conservation of animal species.

We had the opportunity to go inside the park's animal hospital and see one of the ways in which Disney's vision is being brought to life. Most veterinary procedures are done in front of a window so that visitors can gain a new appreciation of what goes into keeping the park's animals healthily. A staff member, outside with the visitors, explains what is going on behind the window.

It was a bit hard to take this picture because we were also behind glass and there is some reflection. You can see the visitors to the Park watching the procedure. In the middle of the veterinary team, you can see some of goat that was being treated for a problem with one of its horns (it is easier to see the goat if you enlarge the picture). This group of veterinary students, veterinarians and technicians does an amazing job in maintaing the health of a very diverse group of animals.
