Clover crop

Soon the clover will be cut and I wont have seen it so I hurried down there this afternoon with a camera.  The aroma of honey scented flowers hit one on entering the field. There weren't too many bees as the weather was chilly while the sun disappeared behind a cloud.

The crop is grown to improve the soil with its nitrogen nodules and it also provides good cattle fodder when put into the silage clamp.  It is dangerous to be eaten fresh in the field as animals are liable to get bloat - when their stomachs swell with air.  This when the farmer has to stab them with a knife to let the air out if he wants the animal to be saved.  Not very nice!
