One Billion Rising: in 2 days we rise

A talented young design student in Norwich, Sam Bettis-Bas, designed this poster for our Norwich Rising, based on the 'official' logo but customising it with the details of our event.

The amount of time, talent and resources that people have freely given to make this event happen has been tremendous. It's a zero-budget, maximum impact event and we've got designers, film makers, photographers, radio presenters, dance teachers, school teachers, IT specialists, event coordinators, all-round 'practical can-do' people plus a whole host of other people all working together to make it happen. And it's not just happening in Norwich, but around the world.

Just in case you're based in Norwich, the timetable for 'One Billion Rising: Norwich' taking place outside the Forum on 14th Feb is outlined below.

You don't have to be female to join in, and you don't need to know the campaign dance. Dancing freestyle is fine. Hand jive is fine. Tapping your toes and waving your arms is fine. We just want you to come, dance, have fun and make a personal pledge about what you are going to do to stop violence against women and girls.

1pm: One Billion Rising campaign dance: 'Break the Chain' led by Anne Francis

1.05: Welcome from Michelle Savage (Shelly Telly), and the Sheriff of Norwich

1.10: Anne Francis leads everyone in a Nia dance to 'One World'

1.15: Zumba Queen - Zumba

1.25: Introduction and dance to 'Break the Chain' One Billion Rising campaign dance led by Anne Francis. Future Radio will be playing the campaign anthem at 1.30 so people will be able to tune in and dance at home, at work, in hospital even.

1.35: Hip hop

1.40: Dancers from Anam Kara: belly dance demonstration

1.50: 'Break the Chain' One Billion Rising campaign dance led by Anne Francis

1.55: Final freestyle dance and close

And on the 14th February I want to see Blipworld plastered with photos of Risings everywhere or, failing that, photos of people with their personal statements about what they are going to do to stop violence against women and girls. I know you don't always get what you want but, hey, there's no harm in asking.

The poster designer also provided a black and white version that could be coloured in. I took one of those and set to work with my coloured pens and ended up with something that looked like an advert for a rave.
