Lung-ta ( Windhorse)

Lungta prayer flags are the most common amongst Tibetan Buddhists. They are in 5 colours representing the 5 elements - earth (yellow), air (white) , water ( green) , fire ( red) and space ( blue). Prayers and mantras are blown in the wind to promote peace, compassion, strength and wisdom to benefit all beings.
The image of the Windhorse is central whilst the outer corners are guarded by four great animals , also know as Four Dignities , the dragon , the Garuda , the tiger and the snowlion.
I fly prayer flags in my garden , enjoying their bright colours and the meaning behind them.
