Standing Strong

The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.
Ernest Hemingway

One of my all time favourite quotes.

To say this week has been a challenge, would be an understatement. The students have not returned to my high school yet and we are already feeling rather overwhelmed. Our province has made it a choice whether parents send children to school or have them attend a virtual classroom.  Sounds great in theory but in the meantime, our physical enrollment continues to change daily which effects the teaching staff. Several times during the day, we are told of cuts and unexpected moves to other schools which raises everyone's anxiety.  On top of all this, other than arrows on the floors, there have been no hand sanitizing stations set up, the rooms are a mess, and today we each have to disinfect our classrooms. We have been told that we cannot use the staffroom, so people have to eat in their classrooms (no socializing, even distanced, is permitted in the school) unless you work with other adults in a room.

Aside from all that, on the weekend, I was over visiting a friend, when my phone started to light up.  A colleague was brutally murdered with three of his children by his brother in law. So messed up... His wife survived, as did the eldest son who was away in university.  I cannot imagine the grief they must be feeling.

Stay strong folks...and take care.
