Somewhere in liberated Europe.

Bit of an EB today.
This is an old photo of a Polish tank crew taken somewhere in Europe sometime after D day. The chap in the middle is Roman (pronounced”Romek “) and he was one of the Polish officers billeted with my parents prior to the invasion of Europe. Despite having his Sherman tank right behind him, Roman is armed to the teeth, pistol on hip and Sten gun in hand!
After the war, Roman moved to Canada, married and raised a family. My father and I visited him in Ontario way back in 1971 and he returned the compliment a few years later. I remember despite so many years in Canada, Roman never lost his European accent although he admitted that he had actually forgotten much of his native language!
