Life after death

Well today wasn't half as bad as forecast, tho' we did have some heavy showers. Went to the Walled Garden this morning and picked another 6lbs of runner beans, and the first of the peas - I know, they went in late! Handed out some beans to the neighbours who in turn hand them out to their friends!

My Blip today shows the urgency that plants have for reproduction. Many plants, especially succulents, will grow from leaf cuttings, but this Kalanchoe tomentosa leaf had fallen off and was lying on the compost surface. I was amazed to see this plantlet developing from the centre of the leaf and sending down a root towards the compost. This succulent is also known as Panda plant, Pussy Ears and Chocolate Soldier, much to my annoyance as it has a perfectly good name already!

Quote of the Day:

Toni Morrison - "Birth, life and death - each took place on the hidden side of a leaf."
