horns of wilmington's cow

Whisky!

Rain.

They make a big play at Bladnoch of being over 200 years old. Of course the current owner, an Aussie who comes over a couple of times a year, has only owned it for the last three, and it's spent some of its recent history mothballed.

But he managed to buy it with barrels of the product in the warehouse, so they're able to sell straight away (I picked up a nice 11 year old, which spent 9 years in a bourbon cask, before spending the last two in a red wine cask, which gives it that fuller sweet body I like in a whisky). Roughly 2025 before they'll release their first 'proper' own whisky.

Also, unassuming, possibly even unattractive, town though Castle Douglas is, it's got some great food shops....

Orchardton Tower
Torhouse Stone Circle
Cairn Holy II
