clinging power

Lots of activity off the back porch today. The hummer was back, and even did some feeding off the Fuchsia plant I brought back out after the snow storm. I also saw White-breasted Nuthatch, Pygmy Nuthatch, Mountain Chickadee,  the usual House Finches, and this Hairy Woodpecker. He had a lovely red patch on the back of his head, but the monochrome treatment emphasizes the strength of his talons for clinging to the tree (with the help of his stiff tail feathers as leverage).
