Between fen and mountains

Jardin potager

I do like a good jardin potager and this is one of the better ones in the village.  This morning I was early to the market and back in time for a site meeting at the church having requested that they undertake certain maintenance jobs.  To my surprise the Maire, his four deputies and the whole works team turned up and they agreed to rewax the floor, replaster the ringing chamber, deal with the window draughts, upgrade the electricity and redo some pointing.  They did say however that we would never be able to use the room that was converted to a chapel last year as the fire brigade has outlawed its use.  It has steps down and only one exit. The lesson is never to begin works without getting permission first. Some of the church members were too enthusiastic in wanting to embark on the project. They also said that our idea of using thermal spa water to heat the building would be prohibitively expensive.  Instead they offered us use of the Catholic church in winter which they pay to heat. There were only three of us at French conversation this afternoon but we spent a pleasant time putting the world to rights.
