Remember man that thou are dust

There is a small park near St Paul's Cathedral called Postman's Park. It used to be the churchyard and burial ground of St Botolph's Aldersgate church, which is next door. In 1900, it became the location for the "Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice", a memorial to ordinary people who died saving the lives of others. There is a loggia with a long wall of ceramic memorial tablets, like this one commemorating young Alice Ayres. Seems appropriate for Ash Wednesday...
