blaue stunde

once again the late afternoon sky scatters into shards of broken cloud, the promise of a sunset, a reason or an excuse to get out... but once again, on the climb up the hill the skies change, a heavy haze rising from the horizon, by the time i reach the top of the hill the sun's already pretty much gone and still half an hour until sunset... it's as if the island has an early warning system in place, the local gods keeping an eye out for my intrusions....that's him just leaving the flat, on his way to the hills...okay, how far do you want to let him go before covering up the sun?... let him get half way up the hill, don't want to discourage him too early....would you like some breaks in the cloud?...not today thank you, i think a solid curtain....what about a little bit of afterglow?...no, but maybe clear the skies for his cycle home, although maybe we should keep the real lunatics off the road, balance things out...sounds like a plan...right that's him just above the first viewpoint time to raise the curtain.... on the plus side, pointing the camera down towards the city the image showed up bright blue on the screen in a way that rarely seems to happen, more than enough justification for the cycle and climb although, in truth, they tend to justify themselves...but i do wonder if maybe next time the local gods will consider this as something overlooked, try to balance it out with a bit of rain...
