Shoveler Bill

The light was just right this afternoon in the Martin Smith hide at Slimbridge WWT catching the shoveler pair on the water.

I just love their huge bills and if you look closely you can see her own filter system which sifts plant matter and small insects from the water surface.

It's an Amber on the UK conservation status having 700 breeding pairs.

On South Lake there are 6 curlew sandpipers which I've never seen before and to be frank could barely see today even with a long lens. More distant in Extra.
