Gauche Melee

This is a Guernsey recipe of a pudding. It’s called Gauche Meleè, but pronounced Gosh Mey la. Although the recipe, spelling and way it’s said varies over the Island. I use vegetable suet, flour, small amount of sugar and mix with milk, adding lots of chopped apples, then put in medium oven for 25/30 minutes. It’s comforting and filling. When we were children my Mum made it on a Tuesday when Gran came for tea and we had it with tinned ideal milk. So today we will share one with my brother in law for after out tea, and the rest will go in the freezer for another few times of having somebody for tea.
