A Serious Maypole

In the village of Barwick-in-Elmet (nr. Leeds) is this impressive maypole.
At nearly 90 feet, it is at one of the tallest poles in the country.

It's used on Spring Bank Holiday Monday (end of May) every three years (not annually).
It's not used for dancing around (they have a smaller one for that) - but the highlight is when a brave man will attempt to climb the pole and 'spin the fox' - i.e. the weathervane at the top!
The theme tune for 'The Archers' is 'Barwick Green' . Written by the Yorkshire composer Arthur Green and named after this village.
