Hi John,

Field day in Malawi is the day where all Agricultural Extension workers from Ministry of Agriculture meet together and disscus (what, when, how, and why) about farming. And demonstration.

The main Agenda today was Consevation farming.

They disscusing about:
1- Importance and Types of manure. eg (Compost, Farm yard and Green manure).
2- Plants that can fix nitrogen in the soil.(Tephrosia, Dahlia, Gricidia and they didn't know about the sunhemp, velvet beans or sespania).

Their Aim is, as devaluation of the Malawi currency,is still affecting small farmer in Malawi they can't to manage to buy fertiliser. Also because of climate change. They encouraging farmers to start practicing organic farming in Northeren Malawi.

The fied day and demonstration was held to Mrs Laness Chavula residence Lusangazi area with the program manager and other staff from Ministry of Agriculture (Mzuzu ADD). Thet sadl;y had no mention of pest control, still using lots of chemicals. We will have to demonstrate later

Interesting story is that all manure and nitrogen fixing plants mentioned there, we already have on our farm for the past four years!!. I managed to say a few words to the Ministries and entire meeting about what we are doing in Lusangazi on our sustainable farm. It was received very well.

Thanks.
Robert.

I find this most interesting and typical, but heartening that someone at last is realising the folly .
