Aberration

The weather turned noticeably cooler and cloudy this afternoon, fortunately there were still plenty of butterflies around in the morning sun. Not another Small Copper I hear you say.  I know I've blipped lots of Small Copper recently but this one is special. It is the aberrant form caeruleopunctata - a name which refers to the four small pear shaped blue dots just inside the hindwing marginal band. This is one of many different types of aberration that you can find in the Small Copper (if you look close enough). Compare with yesterday's Small Copper for the typical form.
