RW 20 Topcliffe

After work this evening, I had a walk round the perimeter track at Topcliffe. It's quite a distance - nearly 3 miles! It was another peaceful and quiet evening, although the wind was beginning to pick up. There's a front coming our way - a change is in the air. I think tomorrow won't be quite so nice for flying as today.

This is the view looking down nearly 1nm of runway, specifically runway 20. I wonder how many young men looked at this view as they took off for bombing raids in Europe. And I wonder how many looked down at it for the last time, never to return.
