Gerringong - 'a place of peril'

We escaped today to the coast for fish and chips. We found a very peaceful spot to eat them, overlooking the Gerringong Cemetery. Gerringong is a small coastal town set near a quite rugged part of the coast with steep cliffs down to the ocean. The cemetery is situated on the top of one of the cliffs. The town's name is said to come from an Aboriginal word meaning 'a fearful place' or 'place of peril'. It struck us that, on a beautiful day like today with a warm-ish breeze blowing, it is a perfect spot for resting in peace.
