Dog of Alcibiades

This rather fetching beast (together with his twin) guards one of the entrances to Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets, East London.

The fearsome hounds are based on a classical 5th century marble statue by Myron and have been in Vicky Park since it opened in the 1840s at Bonner Gate, which is named after one of the benefactors, Bloody Bishop Bonner, Queen Mary I's hatchet man.
