Happy Birthday Daddy!

Miss A awoke with great excitement, ran through to see daddy and wished him a Happy Birthday. She then told him what present she'd got him before we'd had a chance to hand it over. Excited kids and surprises don't really go too well.

We'd rehersed Happy Birthday in the car over the last day or so but Little D lost his tongue when it came to us all singing it. Little did we know he was actually saving himself for a solo which he sang beautifully, just for daddy!

Rob's usual request for presents would be pants and socks, he doesn't ask for much, poor guy. He got the socks, but he also got enough rum to sink a (small) ship, dvd's and tickets to see Lana Del Rey in concert. It's fair to say he was happy with his haul.

Then it was onto the important job of cake-making. Miss A took the role of chief pastry chef and Little D, her understudy. There was a lot of testing to make sure the mixture was just right and the icing just sweet enough. We got there in the end and presented daddy with his favourite victoria sponge with jam and butter icing cake. Unfortunately Little D wasn't able to sample it as he fell asleep at the dinner table, having refused to go down for his nap.

Another treat was in store for the birthday boy as I ordered take out from possibly the tastiest Indian in town, Shanaz. It was all going well until Little D woke and wouldn't settle until I lay down beside him. Miss A jumped into bed too and I proceeded to fall asleep beside my babies at approximately 7pm. Poor Rob was left to enjoy the rest of his birthday on his ownsome - oops!
