A Day In The Life

Chuck Lore

Most of you must be familiar with this tongue twister that originated from a song in the 1902 musical “The Runaways”:

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Woodchucks, Groundhogs, and Whistle Pigs are all the same animal.

Woodchucks are actually ground squirrels and call chipmunks, tree squirrels, and prairie dogs family.

They can climb trees but are more familiar with burrowing. Their burrows can be 51’ long with multiple entrances and escape holes.

They hibernate in winter, with males emerging in early spring before the snow is gone.

We tolerate the ones who frequent our front lawn as long as they stay out of the backyard where the vegetable garden is. They are vegetarians and are quite fond of dandelion and clover flowers. Thankfully we have plenty to offer!

This Chuck was remaining as still as possible a short distance from our lawn area not wanting to be noticed ;)
