Wood Haulage

The piles of wood are now being taken out of the forest by a fleet of very smart trucks, I think almost all to a large wood processing plant at Landsberg about 40km away. The company "ILIM" is owned by a Russian company and is the worlds largest manufacturer of water-resistant plywood.

The bundles of split beech logs on the right belong to a local farmer who I think has moved into firewood selling. I see in adverts that dried, 33cm sawn beech firewood logs cost about €130/m³!!!!
