Daddy Long Legs

It’s the season of the Daddy Long Legs (cranefly) as the little beasts enter our homes at night to keep warm and seek a mate.

Fluttering around the lamp in my lounge this evening I counted four of the amorous creatures and another three in the kitchen.

I try to catch them and set them free out the window, but I don’t kill them as they are food for many British birds. I found a few dead ones on the carpet this morning. Apparently the life span is only 10-15 days.

I think I prefer the monster spiders of the cosy cottage as least they were quiet!
