Stone Sentry on Bridge

Today we visited the Speke Hall Estate and Gardens.  Speke Hall is part of the National Trust and has a, much extended, Tudor house at its heart, surrounded by beautiful gardens and woodland.

I loved this head of a Stone Man on the bridge to the front door, because it reflected the weathered heads of the Iron Men we had seen on Crosby Beach earlier.  (Although this is not a representation of Sir Anthony Gormley.)

There was still a wealth of colour in the gardens around Speke House (extra photo), and the gardeners were being kept busy trimming back the borders and mowing the lawns, which were rich and green (if a little damp).
