Ready for harvesting

The corn on the cob here is allowed to dry out completely, and is used for animal feed. Occasionally on very old farms you see the wire frames used for drying the cobs, but the harvesters now strip each kernel from the cob, and lorry loads of golden corn go down to the grain co-operative silos all day long and return to the fields empty to await the next load.
