The Blue Pig

Scene of many a pub quiz night, I haven’t been in since well before lockdown. Many of the older local pubs have names that are prefixed with “blue” from the days when rival members of the landed gentry stood for election as MPs and bought voters’ support by buying up public houses. Where someone chose to drink showed their political view. Grantham was a pocket borough and so there was no secrecy regarding the casting of votes. Votes were actually paid for! So much for the long and illustrious history of democracy!
