Odd Couple

Most of today I was at my mother's again, standing in for her carer.

This time I went to a different part of the forest while she had her nap. It's in a valley near the source of a little stream and I was happy to see that it survived the drought.

I particularly wanted to check on this couple of trees, which are a bit like childhood friends to me: An oak and a beech, grown together so closely that they hug and hold each other all the way from their roots to the canopy.
From a distance they look like one single tree, despite being two different species.
