Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A window, two relatives and a slickenside.

Another detail from the old smiddy at the Mill of Foveran. This time a window and a pile of agricultural field drains.

Extra: Yesterday it never stopped bucketing with rain and so I spent the afternoon colourising more old photographs. The extra today is a portrait of my mother and her brother taken just before the outbreak of WW1. My uncle is wearing an outfit that Oscar Wilde would have approved of!

Yesterday's puzzle photograph was a Slikenside. In geology, a slickenside is a smoothly polished surface caused by frictional seismic movement between rocks along the two sides of a fault. This surface is normally striated in the direction of movement.  I picked up this example in Canada some years ago.
