Flood Defence

After the amount of rain that has fallen over the last 24hrs, I went off to check the River Douglas levels at the flood defences in the Douglas Valley above the town. Built to alleviate the flooding problem lower downstream, the dam holds back an enormous amount of water, which is slowly released through the flood gates. The metal poles on the right of the image, just peeking out of the ‘lake’, are 15ft tall and usually high and dry!!
