Nature Diary... Brave Little Juan

This little Sparrow has been visiting since early this year when he was very, very young, and he continues to visit now. The remarkable thing about him is that he has only one foot. I don’t know how he lost the other one or if he hatched like it. At times I thought he hadn’t survived but that was because he mixed in so well with the rest of his hatchlings. Then with great delight I’d spot him and feel glad he’d survived, and today was one of those days.

Despite the rain he fed well today from the hanging feeders onto which he hung by his one foot and flapped his wings busily in order to stay in place on the feeder. That must require a lot of energy. When he’d disappeared for a few minutes I braved the rain and put some food in a ground level feeder which I put in a place of shelter under one of my high planters. Before long he was back again and in no time he discovered the new food place and peacefully fed there for ages out of the rain.

So my photos today are in praise of a brave little Sparrow whom I call Juan (‘one’ foot) who bravely carries on and who I sincerely hope will manage to survive for a long while to come. Bless.

Many thanks to everyone for your visits, for your comments, and for all the stars and hearts for my photos while I've taken a brief break. They're all very much appreciated x
