Light on a stormy night

One of the beauties of Canada is the change of the leaves. When we moved into this house, the whole street would be a riot of colour from September till October. Maples, ash, lilacs... an incredible delight to the senses.

Then, of course, came the various tree diseases and around 80% were cut down. Most people replanted - we did, a beautiful maple - but the older trees that survived the cull still have that magic to their outward display that the newer ones often don't.

And when, on a dark and rainy day, there is a brief interlude of brilliance on their canopy, you can't help but step back and admire it.
