An Avid Lensman

A Walk by the River...

Had a lovely afternoon alongside the River Avon at Downton (Hampshire/Wiltshire border) (And no, there isn't an Abbey there...)

Used the tripod throughout (not gorillapod) with polariser and a Tiffen 3 stop ND filter too, to further blur the moving water. Due to two stacked 77mm filters (polariser is slimline, ND less so) there was some vignetting at 17mm. Zooming out a tad removed this.

In this, I ignored that and instead of cropping out the resulting dark corners (the sensible way, for sensible people,) I cloned these areas out, replacing with samples from the surrounding areas. OK on sky and grass, less so on water and a right pain in the proverbials on trees! But worth the time taken, (perhaps!) I feel. And in any case, it's good to practice, though can be tedious and frustrating at times...And I retained the whole frame, which I thought essential, for the composition.

This was on Flickr, now the original Blip is - my alternative, on Flickr .

Lens is the good old workhorse Nikon's 17-35mm f2.8, on full-frame D700, at 17mm, which is 12mm in DX terms

Try it on 'large'!

After a protracted and shivering-inducing waiting for buses home (not back in til 8.30pm) am pretty tired so wish all a great weekend and will get to responding and commenting on my fellow Blippers work in the morning. Sleep well, everyone!
