Between fen and mountains

A nicely painted dial

This long case was probably made in the middle or even later years of the 19th century. This was at a time when clock mechanisms were beginning to be made In a less artisan manner. Some of the parts would probably have been machined elsewhere and hand assembled by the maker. The dial also would’ have been made elsewhere and it is interesting that the dial shows a movement number on it. The painting is on a common country theme and the towers and castles In the quadrants remind me a little of narrowboat decoration.

I had a quieter day today doing a yoga class in the morning before going for a walk between the showers and then reading my book in the afternoon. There is no cooking to do tonight as we have been invited out by friends. Social distancing will be maintained.
