Ore Dock, Marquette, Michigan

The giant ore dock is no longer in operation, but it is still impressive. It used to have a railroad bridge that connected its right hand side to the mainland. The train would would back up onto it, and dump its load of iron ore into large bins. The freighter would then approach, and get loaded, being very careful to distribute its load evenly. It then goes to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada...to be made into steel.

What I didn't know, is that 3 miles to the north, is a still working ore dock. Oh well. Maybe next trip.
