Harlequin ladybird

This species of ladybird only arrived in the UK in 2004 and is now widespread. It's a threat to native ladybirds because it eats native ladybird eggs and larvae. It also eats the  eggs and caterpillars of moths and butterflies. This one was on an aging hydrangea which has turned a beautiful purple.
Another case of unwanted consequences on native species, similar to the introduction of the grey squirrel.
