Hotel Nacional - Gaucin

This beautiful old house in Gaucín used to be a hotel, Hotel Nacional. Many English travellers, usually coming from near Gibraltar, stayed here when they visited the area many years ago. Now it is closed, but I think the house still retains the atmosphere of better days past.

The hotel was closed in 2002 but I was lucky enough to be allowed inside to photograph it as it is now. This historic family-run hotel originally opened in 1827 and was called the Hotel Inglés due to so many of the first customers being British officers who came up on horseback and stayed the night on their way to Ronda.
