Enclosing a fence

I was standing by a fence and spotted a tree apparently growing through the fence but it looked dead and the upper parts had been sawn off a long time ago. On close inspection I saw that sections of the wires of the fence were embedded within the old tree.

I suppose that two branches must have grown through each one either side of the wire which gradually became embedded in the wood.
