I had another go at trying to capture the acorn carrying family of jays. The light was better but I got rained off. I've decided to blip the above image as I like the way the bird is delicately carrying the final acorn that it has gathered for this trip to its hiding place by its stalk. It has more acorns in its gullet, they can carry up to nine. In my extra image a gullet acorn can just be seen. An individual jay can hoard up to three thousand acorns.
I have photographed this behaviour before but from a hide. It was satisfying to get shots out in the open with Ollie dog at my feet..
