Iona

Today we headed off to Iona for the day. It was overcast and a little chilly when we arrived, but the clouds soon cleared and the sun came out. In sheltered spots it was even fairly warm.

We got takeaway coffee and drank it in the Nunnery and then walked up to the north end of the island, wandering briefly into the Abbey grounds. It was so strange to see the entrance building all shut up and the Abbey closed to all but those attending services. The gate to grounds was open though, so we had a quick look in.

There were gorgeous views across to Mull as we walked to the north end (see extra). The white sand of the beaches at the north end are equally gorgeous, so it was a beautiful spot.

We found a sheltered spot on one of the beaches and had our lunch on the beach, sat about for a bit while my niece played on the sand and then walked back towards the village. After a takeaway cup of tea and a little more beach time for my niece we got back on the ferry and headed back to the caravan.

Altogether a lovely day in a beautiful place. And, as we leave Mull tomorrow, a good way to round off our holiday.
