It’s magpie swooping season. If you get too close to their nests, maggies will attack to protect their nests and young. They can inflict serious injuries, particularly to the eyes.
 
I’ve only been seriously swooped once, and I just got a slight groove in my head. The moral is, wear a hat and glasses in swooping season.
 
Maggies generally sit high in tree branches to watch for intruders, and swoop from above. So at this time of year the only good maggie is a maggie on the ground.
