Hyde Abbey Gatehouse

All that remains of Hyde Abbey is the gatehouse that commanded the entrance between inner and outer precincts of the Abbey.


Hyde Abbey was a medieval Benedictine monastery just outside the walls of WinchesterHampshireEngland. It was dissolved and demolished in 1538 following orders of King Henry VIII to destroy Catholic churches as well as the dissolution of monasteries and abbeys.
